As the SaaS market grows, a platform that specializes in selling only its products is attracting attention.
According to the cloud industry on the 1st, customers are looking for a marketplace exclusively for SaaS operated by ICT companies, not the marketplaces operated by cloud companies that focus on infrastructure as a service (IaaS) such as KT, Naver Cloud, and NHN.
Customers reduce the cost burden by purchasing only the software they need from the SaaS distribution platform. It providers also welcome diversification of sales channels. As supply and demand increase simultaneously, expectations for market growth increase.
According to Gartner, a market research firm, the global public cloud service market will be worth $270.33 billion (313 trillion won) in 2020. Among them, the SaaS market accounts for 38%. There is a similar trend in the country. As of 2020, the number of domestic SaaS providers was 561, or 45.8% of the total. This is a 15.2% increase from 2019 (487).
Digiformers Lab, a marketplace dedicated to SaaS, opened in December 2020, is evaluated to be growing rapidly even though it is a platform operated by SMEs. As of 1 day, 56 solutions are on sale and the number of subscribers is 2870. The cumulative number of visitors exceeded 18,000.
An official from Digiformers Labs said, “The largest number of small and medium-sized corporate customers is that they are contributing to sales growth.”
The platform is a market that even large companies are paying attention to. SK Telecom, which opened a cloud marketplace in March, is a latecomer but is rapidly growing its presence. According to SK Telecom, 65 SaaS products entered the store as of the 1st. Customers are diverse, regardless of large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This is an increase in the first five months of the opening of the cloud marketplace.
SK Telecom, which aims to become the largest SaaS marketplace in Korea, is conducting active marketing such as holding a cloud market place briefing session through the Cloud Industry Association. In the case of Microsoft 365 for business, it is actively recruiting customers by running large-scale discount promotions.
On the other hand, LG CNS, which was a pioneer, is quietly operating a SaaS marketplace. LG CNS introduced ‘Mashup Plus’, a SaaS marketplace for SMEs in 2015. However
Even six years ago, the SaaS market was not in full bloom, so it did not produce any significant results. The official website of the Marketplace has also disappeared.
An LG CNS official explained, “We are operating in the form of a private enterprise for customers who want SaaS.
