Orchard Park, N.Y. — The Cincinnati Bengals had a chance to claim the AFC’s No. 2 seed in this year’s playoffs.
In addition to a win over the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati just needed the New England Patriots to knock off the Buffalo Bills.
Cincinnati did their part defeating Baltimore 27-16 on Sunday afternoon. With the Bengals ahead, did star quarterback Joe Burrow monitor Buffalo’s matchup against New England?
No.
The reason? Burrow had no faith in the Patriots. When meeting with the media, Burrow said he just figured that the Bills would take care of business at Highmark Stadium.
“I was not,” Burrow told the media postgame via Paul Dehner Jr. “I just assumed they were going to win.”
Ouch.
There was a time when the Patriots were the class of the AFC. Those days seem long gone with New England being a middle of the road team in the conference with plenty of questions about their roster going forward.
