After one of the most emotion-filled weeks in franchise history, the Buffalo Bills return to the football field today as they host the New England Patriots today at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
The Bills are coming off a week unlike any other in franchise history. On Monday night against the Bengals, Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field and needed CPR on the field. After he was taken to a Cincinnati hospital in critical condition, the game was postponed and ultimately canceled by the NFL.
The event left teammates and football fans shaken and brought in messages of support from around the world. Hamlin’s condition improved through the week, though, and he was able to speak with his family and with teammates on Friday.
The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up the AFC’s No. 1 seed on Saturday with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Today’s game against the Patriots is still key for the Bills, though, because of changes to the playoffs announced by the NFL because of the Bills-Bengals cancelation. If the Bills win today and go on to face the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, the game will be played at a neutral field. If the Bills lose today and then advance to the title game against the Chiefs, the game will be played in Kansas City.
As for the Patriots, they are fighting for their playoff life. New England will clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Bills today. If they lose, the Patriots could still make the postseason if the Dolphins and the Steelers both lose today.
