Its latest flagship chipset has been launched by Qualcomm in the past as the ‘Most Advanced 5G Mobile Platform‘. The company has touted it as the world’s first 5G modern-RF solution, with download speeds of up to 10Gbps with commercial 18-bit mobile ISPs. This processor will be given in the next-generation premium Android smartphones and the first device to be launched with it can be part of the Xiaomi 12 series.
Processor came with new naming scheme
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is Qualcomm’s new flagship system-on-chip (SoC) and is the first processor to come with the company’s new naming scheme. This processor will be adopted by many big smartphone brands globally, including names like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Oppo and Realme. With these processors, Qualcomm will try to compete with MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9000 chip, Samsung’s Exynos 2200 SoC and Apple’s Bionic processors.
Chipset based on 4nm process technology
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is based on 4nm process technology. It is powered by a 64-bit ARM-V9 architecture based octa-core Kryo CPU, which offers speeds of up to 3.0GHz. The company has said that this processor will give 20 percent better performance than the previous Snapdragon 888 SoC. The new Adreno GPU will also offer 30 percent better graphics rendering and 25 percent better power efficiency with Vulkan 1.1 support.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor will be powered by the 7th-generation Qualcomm AI Engine, which is said to be four times faster than the previous chip. The Qualcomm Hexagon processor found in it offers twice as much shared memory and twice as fast Tensor Accelerator and is powered by the 3rd-Generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub. The new processor also includes integration of Leica Leitz Look filters, natural language processing and an on-device health analyzer.
Snapdragon site to collect 4,000 times more camera data
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC will get 4K on-device display resolution and the processor will also support 144Hz screen refresh rate, HDR 10+ support and LPDDR5 RAM configuration. Apart from this, the first-ever always-on 18-bit ISP (Image Signal Processor) has been given with Snapdragon Sight, which will capture 4,000 times more data than the old 14-bit system. The new chipset from Snapdragon will support 200MP single-camera resolution and 8K HDR video recording.
The world’s first chipset to offer Android Ready SE
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is powered by the Snapdragon X65 5G Modern-RF system, with download speeds of up to 10Gbps and will support mmWave 5G and sub-6Hz 5G cellular technologies. This chipset supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC connectivity. This is the first platform that the Android Ready Secure Element (SE) Alliance will offer to secure digital car keys, licenses and other information.
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor will be found in the Motorola Edge X30 (Edge 30 Ultra). The new processor can be found first in this device or Xiaomi 12. Apart from this, the new processor will also be given first in devices like Realme GT 2 Pro, Oppo’s Next Generation Find X series, Samsung Galaxy S22 series and OnePlus 10 Pro. Black Shark, Honor, iQOO, Nubia, Sharp, Sony, Vivo and ZTE will also launch phones with the new processor.
