Quarterbacks Jason Beck will be promoted to OC, sources confirmed to Syracuse.com, and it’s anticipated the move will be permanent.
This will be Beck’s second coordinator gig, having served one season as the offensive coordinator at Simon Fraser back in 2012. He’s spent the 10 seasons since then as a package deal with Anae at BYU, then Virginia and most recently Syracuse.
This was the pair’s first season with the Orange.
Beck, 42, has established a reputation for turning good quarterbacks into great ones. SU starter Garrett Shrader saw significant improvement in his passing game this season, finishing the year with a 65.04% completion percentage, a 13% increase over last year.
Beck is also the primary recruiter for 4-star QB prospect LaNorris Sellers, who switched his commitment from UVA to Syracuse earlier this year to stick with the position coach. SU managing to retain Beck should keep Sellers committed.
