Syracuse Crunch fall to Hershey, 4-3

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Crunch were defeated by the Hershey Bears, 4-3, tonight at Giant Center.

    The Crunch are now on a five-game winless streak and move to 13-13-2-3 on the season.

    Crunch goaltender Max Lagace turned aside 18-of-22 shots. Hunter Shepard recorded the win stopping 25-of-28 between the pipes for the Bears.

    Syracuse was scoreless on five power play opportunities, while Hershey went 1-for-3.

    The Bears opened scoring just 4:19 into the game. Henrik Rybinski centered the puck from along the end boards for Beck Malenstyn to chip in. Two minutes into the middle frame, Hershey doubled their lead off a breakaway goal by Connor McMichael.

    Syracuse stole one back to cut the lead in half at the 8:22 mark of the season period. Gabe Fortier skated the puck into the zone down the left wing and dropped a pass back for Jack Finley to send home. Hershey regained their two-goal lead two minutes later when Mike Sgarbossa scored from the bottom of the right circle. The Bears added another on while on the man-advantage at the 14:32 mark. Lagace made the initial save on Ethen Frank’s left point shot, but Aliaksei Protas grabbed the rebound and centered it for Mike Vecchione to send in.

    The Crunch came back within two 8:37 into the third period. Gage Goncalves passed the puck down to Alex Barre-Boulet along the goal line. He quick fed Gabriel Dumont who had a wide-open net on the back door. Four minutes later, Syracuse struck again when Shawn Element tipped in a long point shot from Darren Raddysh. The third period comeback fell just short and Hershey held on for the win.

    The Crunch return home to host the Laval Rocket on Friday.
