Syracuse, N.Y. ― Syracuse forward Benny Williams will not play in the Orange’s game against Virginia today, according to SU officials.
Williams, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, is out with a non-Covid illness. He is at the John Paul Jones Arena, but did not warm up with the rest of the Syracuse players.
Williams had started each of Syracuse’s first 15 games this season. He is averaging 8.0 points and 4.7 rebounds.
Williams’ absence means that SU coach Jim Boeheim will have to adjust his starting lineup for the first time this season. Redshirt junior John Bol Ajak and freshmen Maliq Brown and Justin Taylor are all candidates to replace Williams as the starter at power foward. All three figure to play more as a result.
